Grand jurors have indicted a Freedom man on a charge he shot at a Ravenna Township man following a fight in June. His trial is set for Sept. 6.

William D. Calhoun Jr., 22, of 6466 Streeter Road was indicted July 13 on one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony with a firearms specification.

Calhoun pleaded not guilty at his July 14 arraignment in Portage County Common Pleas Court and requested a court-appointed attorney. He is being held in the Portage County jail on 10 percent of $50,000 bond.

If convicted, Calhoun faces a potential prison sentence of five to 11 years, including three mandatory years for using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Calhoun, also known by the nickname "Junie June," allegedly shot once at a 43-year-old Ravenna Township man during a fight in the 6500 block of Terrill Street on June 8, according to sheriff's deputies.

The bullet missed the intended victim and no one was injured. Calhoun was arrested July 5.
